Brighton talisman Moises Caicedo is reportedly attracting interest from Liverpool and Newcastle United.

The Ecuadorian international cost Albion just £4.5million in February 2021 when he signed from Independiente de Valle but it is fair to say he is worth a lot more than that now. After helping the Seagulls finish ninth in the Premier League last season and being one of their best players in guiding them to seventh at present, the midfielder’s list of admirers continues to grow.

The 21-year-old, whose contract with the Sussex side expires in the summer of 2025, is also understood to be on the radar of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea, among others. But, if he does leave the south coast outfit, it will not be on the cheap.

Before former head coach Graham Potter swapped the Amex for Stamford Bridge in September, he was asked how much the young Ecuadorian, who only made his Premier League debut with the club in April 2022, could cost.

The 47-year-old joked if a team bid £42million for Caicedo, who impressed for his country at the World Cup in Qatar, they would “probably get his boots”, knowing Brighton’s owner Tony Bloom. Incidentally, he is likely to have a price tag of closer to £100million.

In late August, he said: “I think you’d probably get his boots for that (£42million) for the chairman maybe, knowing the chairman,” he joked. “It’s not for me to talk about. It is what it is.”

When asked if it would be closer to £100million, Potter laughed and said, “Yeah, well they can try.”

Current Albion head coach Roberto De Zerbi also recognises Caicedo’s talents. In late October, the Italian, who had only worked with him for a matter of weeks at that point, said he could go to the very top of the game.

The 43-year-old stated: “Caicedo for me could become one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and in Europe. Caicedo is a top player with and without the ball. There are many players who are very good with the ball but without it in defensive spaces are not so good.

“Others in the defensive space are top but with the ball, there are some problems. With Caicedo, I don’t see anything not at the top level. He is very young, so he can learn and improve more. He has no limit.”
