Kelly Clarkson is almost ready to open up about what she’s been experiencing in her personal life by way of new music.
In a heartfelt video posted to The Kelly Clarkson Show’s official account, the daytime TV show host revealed that folks can anticipate a new album later this year. While the big announcement is exciting, she quickly explained why it’s taking so long for her to release it. As she implied in the clip, she needed to take some time to heal after separating from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock before writing any new songs.
“I have an album coming out this year — I swear,” she began in the January 14 snippet. “I know I’ve been talking about it, but look — I’m going to be really honest with you … it took a minute for me to be able to release this album. Because I just had to be over it, through it, like all around it.”
The American Idol alum continued: “I had to get past it in order to talk about it, because I know people want to ask me about the album and songs and I just feel like … I needed a minute … so, it’s like, it’s really cool. And it’s a great arc of like a whole relationship. So, it’s not all sad or mad, but … that’s in there.”
When fans caught wind of the fact that The Voice star has new music in the works, they immediately began rallying around her in the comments.

Glad you took the time YOU needed to do that. ❤️,” another user added.
In June 2020, Kelly filed for divorce from Brandon after close to seven years of marriage. The former couple also share two children, daughter River Rose and son Remington “Remy” Alexander. Given the nature of their relationship, the “Since U Been Gone” singer noted the importance of taking her time before feeling comfortable enough to share elements of it to fans.

“I hadn’t really been working hardcore on an album until I needed to,” she told Variety in September 2022. “I was just very busy … But then the whole divorce thing happened, and I needed to write it … I didn’t know if I was going to release it, because you can be very angry in that state of mind. So, some of the songs, they definitely cover the gamut of emotions; there’s everything on the album.”
