The talents of teens in foster care; Young Advocates for Racial Equality; What’s Good Wednesday
Good Wednesday #GoodWednesday
Family Support Services, in partnership with the Performer’s Academy, presents its 12th Just Like Me showcase, entitled “Ignite the Flame.”
The event highlights the talents of teens in foster card. It’s scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Jacksonville Main Library’s Hicks Auditorium.
We get a preview from Amelia Stapleton, a foster parent who has had several teens in the Just Like Me camp over the years; Jenay Collings, a former youth in care with Family Support Services and a Just Like Me alumna who now works for The Performers Academy/Just Like Me; Kathryn McAvoy, executive director of the Performers Academy; and Maria Oxford, manager of independent living and youth well-being for Family Support Services.
‘The Freedom Ride’
“The Freedom Ride,” presented by the Young Advocates for Racial Equality, just opened at Yellow House. It is an exhibition of images and words, including both visual artists and poets.
Hope McMath, founder and director of Yellow House, and Niveah Desir, youth poet and co-curator, tell us more.
What’s Good Wednesday
It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for our midweek look at what’s good here on the First Coast. Today we have Chris Boivin, assistant director of community relations and marketing at Jacksonville Public Library, and Michael Wiley, mystery writer and host of tonight’s Lit Chat.
