The surprising connection between Shaq, Danny Green that explains his poor shooting

Los Angeles Lakers guard Danny Green has shot the ball poorly during the 2020 playoffs, making only 36.4 percent of his shots from 3-point range. However, there might be a solid explanation for that: Shaquille O’Neal.

Shaq, who has only made one 3-pointer during his 19-year career, has apparently been giving Green shooting tips during these playoffs. During Tuesday’s “Inside the NBA” show, the Lakers legend explained to the crew that one of his tips to Green was to “stop jerking his shot” and to “hold a follow-through”.

Shaq also said he used to be Green’s shooting coach when they were both on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

All jokes aside, the Lakers will certainly need Danny Green to get back to his “old shooting ways” if they want a shot at heading to the Finals. In Game 1, Green went 1-of-4 from 3-point range, and 3-of-10 in Game 2.

However, the plus side for Green is that he doesn’t only provide shooting for the Lakers. The 33-year-old has proven to be a solid defender during the regular season, and he continues to step up for the Purple and Gold on the defensive end during the playoffs.

The veteran swingman has primarily defended Nuggets star Jamal Murray, and he’s doing a phenomenal job guarding him. In the past two games against Green and the Lakers, Murray has only shot 35.6 percent from 3-point range. Additionally, he is only averaging 23.0 points in the series, which is the lowest for him in the playoffs so far.
