The Smiths’ Johnny Marr tries to stop Trump using their song: ‘Consider this s–t shut down right now’

He’s the boy with a thorn in his side.

The Smiths’ guitarist Johnny Marr has become the latest artist to try to “shut down” former President Donald Trump from using one of his songs.

Trump’s campaign has played the legendary UK group’s 1984 song “Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want” at several rallies over the years, including at a stop in New Hampshire on Monday.

But that appeared to be news to Marr, 60, who responded to a tweet with his former band’s hit being played at a rally in September.

“Ahh … right … OK,” the legendary guitarist wrote in response to someone noting that “you actually hear the Smiths more often than you’d think at 2024 Trump rallies.”

“I never in a million years thought this could come to pass,” he wrote.

“Consider this s–t shut down right now.”

It is unclear whether the rocker plans to pursue legal action to prevent it from using the nearly two-minute-long song any further.

The Post has reached out to his agent for comment.

Marr is not the first artist aghast at Trump using his music.

Marr told the Trump campaign in a post on X Wednesday to “consider this s–t shut down right now.”

The Rolling Stones, Guns ‘N’ Roses and Rihanna are among those who have previously hit out at the Trump campaign for using their songs at rallies.

The estates of Tom Petty and Leonard Cohen also sent the former president’s campaign cease-and-desist letters.

Neil Young even filed a lawsuit against the former president’s 2020 campaign to stop it from playing his tunes, but he quietly dismissed it just months later.

Still, Trump has continued to reign supreme in the race for the White House — holding off competitor Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday.
