‘The Right Stuff,’ ‘Tremors’ star Fred Ward dead at 79

“The Right Stuff” and “Tremors” star, Fred Ward died at the age of 79, according to his publicist.

The Hollywood Reporter says Fred Ward’s publicist, Ron Hoffman, announced that Ward passed away on Sunday. He did not release the cause of death or where he died in respect to Ward’s family.

Ward’s most recent role was in the second season of HBO’s “True Detective”. He played the retired cop father to Colin Farrell’s character, according to Variety. He also made appearances in “ER”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, and “United States of Tara.” Ward starred as the lead in “Henry & June” which he also helped direct. The film also starred Uma Thurman and was rated NC-17 when it came out in 1990.

He was best known for his role in the movie, “Tremors” in which Ward starred alongside Kevin Bacon in 1990, Variety reported. Ward and Bacon played a pair of handymen working in a Nevada desert community who encounter worm-like monsters.

Ward was married twice, to Silvia Ward and Marie-France Ward, according to Variety. He leaves behind his son, Django, from his first marriage.
