The owner of a Pewaukee doggy day care and boarding service is opening a Delafield location

Barkin’ Up Delafield, a doggy day care and boarding service, is coming to the city later this year.

Owner Ben Nader also runs Barkin’ Up Hickory in the village of Pewaukee at 1271 Hickory St., which has been open for the past eight years. Nader said opening a second location has been in the works for three years.

“It’s a good community,” Nader said. “A lot of our customer base in Pewaukee comes from people driving on Highway 16. With the area in Delafield we’ll be able to touch on a bigger portion of Lake Country with people in Oconomowoc who generally take Interstate 94.”

The Delafield location will be at 402 Kettle Drive, which is just east of Home Depot. Nader hopes the business will open by Thanksgiving.

According to Barkin’ Up Hickory’s website, the company’s main focus is to provide dogs with exercise, attention and social interaction they crave. Barkin’ Up also offers a “hound hotel” and grooming.

“As long as it’s not blistering cold or pouring rain or anything like that, they have access to go in and outside,” Nader said.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, Nader said Barkin’ Up would have up to 80 dogs.

“It’s taken a hit the last few months, obviously,” Nader said. “But once we get back to normal, most weekdays are around 60. Around spring break we can get around 80.”
