What is ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’ about?

Directed by Michael Chaves, the third installment of the linear The Conjuring series (the eighth film in the Conjuring Universe) will star Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, reprising their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators working to determine the truth behind a young murder suspect’s claim that demonic possession drove him to commit murder. Ed and Lorraine Warren were real paranormal investigators, and the events of The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It are based on the real-life 1981 trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, whose murder defense involved claiming demonic possession had rendered him innocent of his actions.

In previous The Conjuring films, as well as films like Annabelle, Lorraine’s connection to the paranormal grows as time goes on, and based on the trailer for the new film it looks like her abilities begin to offer new consequences for the Warren family. If you want to get caught up on the spooky goings-on of the Conjuring Universe, you can find The Conjuring (2013), The Conjuring 2 (2016), and other films in the Conjuring Universe like Annabelle and The Nun on HBO Max.

You can watch The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It starting Friday, June 4 at 3 A.M. ET/ 12 A.M. PT on HBO Max. The film will be streaming on HBO Max for 31 days past its theatrical release.
