The Mercedes-AMG One is now the fastest road-legal vehicle on the legendary Nürburgring track.
The near 13-mile circuit is the most famous — and most dangerous — in Germany.
Just 275 Mercedes-AMG One cars will be made and are already sold out despite costing $2.6 million.
The most powerful car ever produced by Mercedes-Benz has set a new record for street-legal vehicles on the legendary Nürburgring-Nordschleife racetrack in Germany.
A Mercedes-AMG One driven by Maro Engel zoomed round the track in just 6 minutes and 35.183 seconds, beating the previous record by a full eight seconds despite “less-than-ideal” track conditions, per Mercedes.
The 1,049bhp hypercar topped speeds of 210 mph as it set the new record on October 28.
The Mercedes-AMG One is legal to drive on public roads, but just 275 are due to be built. The run is already sold out despite the cars costing $2.6 million apiece.
The car is a plug-in hybrid and features Formula One technology. Each has a turbocharged 1.6-litre V6 engine, four electric motors and an 8.4kWh battery, per the Daily Mail.
The previous record by a road-legal production car around Nürburgring was set by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Manthey-Racing in June 2021, which clocked the circuit in 6 minutes and 43.300 seconds.
Engel described his record-breaking lap in the Mercedes ATG-One as an “unforgettable experience.”
The German driver added: “I didn’t expect that we would be able to set such a lap time with these track conditions. In some crucial areas of the track, it hadn’t dried completely yet and was therefore tricky. That was a special challenge.”
The Nürburgring is the world’s most dangerous racetrack. It is just under 13 miles long and has more than 150 corners.
