PITTSFIELD — A Pittsfield man accused of robbing the Beacon Cinema on Friday has been ordered held on $10,000 bail.
Kyle Wilbur, 32, is accused of threatening a cashier at the North Street movie theater Friday night, saying that the money in the cash register “wasn’t worth getting shot over” while holding his left hand in his jacket pocket, according to a Pittsfield police report.
He was arrested about 10 minutes later at Francis Avenue and Bradford Street based on initial reports and witness information, the report said.
Wilbur never showed a gun to the theater staff, the report said, and he was not in possession of a gun when he was arrested. The report noted that Wilbur may have gotten rid of a weapon by the time police caught up to him about a mile northwest of the incident.
Police recovered $180 from Wilbur during the arrest. In a prior interview with The Eagle, assistant manager Haley Salzarulo said that the registers often have little cash due to the number of patrons who pay with a card.
Wilbur pleaded not guilty in Central Berkshire District Court on Monday to a charge of armed robbery. He is due to return to court March 26.
