According to Deadline, a new documentary released this week at the Slamdance Film Festival called 18th & Grand: The Olympic Auditorium Story featured an interview with the late “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. The interview was recorded very shortly before his passing. Piper died in July 2015 from a heart attack at the age of 61.

The infamous Olympic Auditorium was a wrestling hotbed hosting many legends of our time, including Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Gorgeous George and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, to name a few. The YouTube channel for the documentary released the interview footage with Piper (see below). One of Piper’s very last appearances would come on July 24th, 2015 on “The Rich Eisen Show”, as Piper would tragically pass away a week later on July 31st.

“I know what a gladiator in Rome must’ve felt like. You come out, and you’re behind them, which is good. The people who sat there they had boxes of popcorn, and they’d stick the knife up in the box of popcorn. It was the first time I got sliced, you know. When I’d go by, they’d go ‘schft’ [makes slicing motion] and they’d be gone…The crowd would close.”
