The Kate Middleton photo drama is the gift that social media needed

But the recent Kate Middleton debacle has reignited some of the old-school enjoyment on the site and app.
Memes began flying about in recent weeks as people started speculating on the Princess of Wales’ whereabouts, and they’ve only spiraled from there.
The earlier memes joked that Kate was maybe recovering from a Brazilian butt lift, known as a BBL, or was growing out a bad haircut.
A Mother’s Day post by Kensington Palace should have quashed the conspiracy theories — instead, it only fuelled the fire as people spotted editing errors in the photo.
Users have poked fun at the edited photo by posting cartoonishly fake alternatives.
And the apology posted on Kensington Palace’s X account, which said the Princess of Wales “occasionally” experimented with editing photos, only gave the internet more meme fodder.
This brought back a classic meme format, “Graphic design is my passion,” to poke fun at the idea of Kate’s amateur editing skills. Other memes showing comically doctored images also popped up.
Some X users are showing self-awareness of how far they’ve fallen down the “Katespiracy'” rabbit hole.
One user pointed out the absurdity of explaining the situation to her husband, while another posted about the reaction of their unsuspecting friends to being sent “a million Kate Middleton tweets.”
