The Eagles are reportedly going to trade Carson Wentz as ‘early as this week’

Eagles #Eagles

a close up of a man throwing a baseball: So now that it appears that Jalen Hurts is a real-life NFL quarterback -- and one who comes at a bargain price -- it’s starting to become apparent that we’ve seen the last of Carson Wentz as the Eagles’ starting quarterback. And based on a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it sounds like the 27-year-old would prefer it that way. There aren’t going to be a lot of teams lining up to trade for a broken Wentz and his $24.6 million average annual salary, but NFL teams seem to love a reclamation project so there could be a small market for his services. That shortlist of teams should include the San Francisco 49ers, who were officially eliminated from the playoffs after losing to the Cowboys on Sunday. I don’t know if it’s possible to “fix” Wentz at this point, but put him in an offense that mitigates his weakness and highlights his strengths, and you can still get a productive quarterback out of him. Kyle Shanahan’s offense would do just that. We’ve seen that play-action-heavy approach “fix” a lot of quarterbacks. It’s turned Ryan Tannehill, who has a penchant for holding onto the ball a bit too long, into one of the most prolific passers in the league. It’s turned Baker Mayfield, who’s footwork and decision making while under pressure let him down far too often, into a quarterback who might be signing a lucrative extension in the offseason. Do those weaknesses sound familiar? The less thinking Wentz has to do, the better. Let the scheme do the thinking for him, and his natural ability can take care of the rest. And we know Wentz has plenty of that. There’s a reason he was drafted second overall. From a financial standpoint, the 49ers wouldn’t be taking much of a risk. Jimmy Garoppolo has less than $3 million in dead money left on his contract after this season and parting ways with him would save the team $23.6 million, which is right around what they’d have to pay Wentz if they traded for him. In other words, they'd break even financially. 49ers fans may not see Wentz as much of an upgrade over Jimmy G, but we haven’t really seen the former play in a QB-friendly offense during his career and I’d imagine he’d look like a far better quarterback with Shanahan making things so much easier for him with his play-calling prowess. Plus, Wentz’s mobility would add an element to Shanahan’s offense that he hasn’t enjoyed since the 2012 season when he and Robert Griffin produced one of the most efficient offenses in the NFL. A Wentz-Shanahan party would be mutually beneficial for both parties. The 49ers front office just needs to make it happen. © Mark J. We’ve already seen one top notch quarterback switch teams this offseason with Matthew Stafford going to the Rams. We’re on watch mode with Deshaun Watson and the Texans, just waiting for a deal to get done there.

Now, it looks like we’ve got another one coming soon. Real soon.

Carson Wentz trade rumor mill is churning. After a subpar year and a “fractured” relationship with the Eagles, the quarterback has reportedly decided to move on and was expected to request a trade.

That request will be granted — and relatively soon. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the Eagles are working on a “blockbuster” deal and that it could happen as soon as this week.

The rumors are flying just in time for the Super Bowl. The NFL really never stops moving.

It looks like the Wentz era in Philadelphia is done. Now all that’s left is to see what they get back for him.
