Clare Crawley and Dale Moss are going their separate ways.

Moss, who got engaged to Crawley last summer after just two weeks on her season of The Bachelorette, announced their breakup on Tuesday.

News of Crawley and Moss’ split comes nearly a week after the former NFL player opened up about his true intentions for joining the reality series.

On the Jan. 13 episode of the podcast Raising the Bar with Alli and Adrian, Moss revealed that after being nominated for the show, he didn’t make the decision to accept his spot on the show until Crawley was announced as the Bachelorette.

“I actually finally committed to it four days before everyone was supposed to leave for the show. And the only reason I committed to it was because Clare was announced as Bachelorette at that time,” he said. “She was so confident and passionate.”

From the first night of Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette, viewers saw an instant spark between Crawley and Moss — and she ultimately decided to cut the experience short to be with Moss and accepted his proposal during episode four.

Following their quick engagement, Crawley and Moss made their exit from season 16 of The Bachelorette, leaving the door open for Tayshia Adams to take over.

“This is the happiest time in my life,” Crawley told PEOPLE in November. “Everything [since] has been even more reaffirming of why I chose him.”

From the beginning, the pair also dealt with naysayers who criticized the fact that they got engaged after two weeks.

“For me personally, there is no explanation needed,” Moss previously told PEOPLE. “I’ve never been afraid of commitment. And when I met Clare, I knew I was all in. She lights a fire in me that I was missing for so long.”

“Dale could have not proposed and I would still be with him and love him as much as I do now,” added Crawley. “We could go to the courthouse tomorrow and get married or it could be next week or next year. There’s no rush. But we definitely talk about it all the time.”
