WalletHub ranked the best cities to celebrate Halloween.
The ranking came down to three things: trick-or-treater friendliness, Halloween fun, and weather.
New York City earned the top spot, due to high scores in two of the three categories.
Maybe it’s time to plan a Halloween getaway — WalletHub recently ranked the top 100 most populated US cities in terms of how they celebrate Halloween.

The company based the ranking on 22 factors, including costume stores per capita, the number of potential-trick-or-treaters, haunted houses per capita, forecasted Halloween precipitation, the average price of a ticket to a Halloween party, and more.

10. Boston, Massachusetts

Boston earned its spot by ranking third for its trick-or-treater friendliness.
9. Santa Ana, California

Santa Ana ranked No. 1 overall for the highest potential of trick-or-treat stops — bust out the candy, Santa Ana residents.
Santa Ana also had top 10 placements for trick-or-treater friendliness and Halloween weather.
8. Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas has the No. 2 spot for Halloween fun on WalletHub’s rankings, along with a tie for first place in costume stores per capita and candy & chocolate stores per capita — specifically, Vegas has 36 times the amount of costume stores that Washington, DC, has.
7. Jersey City, New Jersey

Besides its No. 2 spot for trick-or-treater friendliness, Jersey City is also an affordable Halloween spot. It had the lowest average price per Halloween ticket, 11 times lower than thee most expensive city, New Orleans.

San Jose was tied for fifth for best Halloween weather, which brought its average up. It ranked in the top 20 for the other two main metrics.
5. San Diego, California

This southern California city has its amazing weather and a high Halloween fun score going for it, making it a great place to spend this spooky holiday.

4. Los Angeles, California

While you might be able to spot your favorite A-listers at one of the many parties in Los Angeles, it’ll cost you a pretty penny; Los Angeles’ average ticket price was only cheaper than Oakland, Birmingham, Miami, and New Orleans.
Indeed, its sixth place spot for Halloween fun brought up LA’s score.
3. Miami, Florida

Miami ranked in the top 10 for both trick-or-treater friendliness and Halloween fun, but, perhaps surprisingly, was ranked No. 30 for Halloween weather.
2. San Francisco, California

The second-best place to spend Halloween, weather-wise, is none other than San Francisco, according to WalletHub — although the city by the Bay is actually the place where you have lowest potential of running into trick-or-treaters.
1. New York, New York

New York City is the gold standard for Halloween celebrations, according to WalletHub. It ranked in the top three for two of main factors, coming in first for trick-or-treater friendliness, third for Halloween fun — but a measly 88th for Halloween weather.
However, the Big Apple is tied for first for most costume stores per capita and most candy and chocolate stores per capita.
