Meghan Markle has been filmed showing her baby son, Archie, a picture of Diana, Princess of Wales, in her new documentary with Prince Harry.

The docuseries, titled Harry & Meghan, has been released on Netflix and sees the Duke and Duchess of Sussex speaking about their love story and Harry’s tricky relationship with the press.

In one scene from the first episode, Meghan is shown holding their son Archie, now three, when he was a baby and showing him a picture of his late grandmother, Diana.

The black-and-white image sees Diana, who died in a car crash in 1997, wearing a strapless white dress and her favoured Lover’s Knot tiara, which is now often worn by Kate Middleton.

In the home video, you can hear Meghan say: “Hey Grandma,” and then to Archie, “That’s your Grandma Diana.”

Harry also compares his mother to Meghan in the episode, saying: “So much of what Meghan is, and how she is, is so similar to my mum. She has the same compassion, she has the same empathy, she has the same confidence. She has this warmth about her.”

Harry added that he knows there will be “people around the world who fundamentally disagree with what I’ve done and how I’ve done it” but he “knew I had to do everything I could to protect my family. Especially after what happened to my mum”.

“You know, I didn’t want history to repeat itself,” he explained.

During the first episode, Harry spoke at length about the paparazzi’s impact on his life, especially growing up as a young child. He added that, for his mum, it seemed to worsen after her and the now-King Charles III announced their separation in 1992.

This incessant coverage, something he was seeing happen to Meghan after the pair got engaged in 2017, was the driving force behind why he and Meghan stepped down as senior members of the royal family in 2020.

Elsewhere in the episode, Meghan revealed that Harry was half an hour late to their first date in the summer of 2016.

“You were genuinely so embarrassed and late,” she told Harry during an interview, adding: “He was just so fun. Just so refreshingly fun, and that was the thing, we were… childlike together.”
