Angela Rayner clashes with Reid on Labour’s school plans
Deputy Labour leader Angela Rayner and Good Morning Britain (GMB) host Susanna Reid snapped at each other as the discussed schools remaining closed during the coronavirus pandemic. Ms Rayner insisted the Labour Party wants school teachers to be part of the next group of vaccinated Britons. However, Ms Reid insisted that if teachers are vaccinated ahead of other groups and essential workers, some groups will lose out.
Ms Reid concluded that, based on Ms Rayner’s comments, the Labour Party do not want schools open on 8th of March unless school teachers are vaccinated.
Ms Rayner snapped at the GMB host and claimed that was not what her or her party were suggesting.
Ms Reid said: “The fact of the matter is there is a limited supply of vaccines.
“So somebody getting a jab does mean somebody else has to wait their turn.

“If, as it looks likely, the Government does not vaccinate teachers are you suggesting that schools should not open on March 8?
Ms Rayner replied: “No, not at all.
“What we are suggesting is that it is part of a package that the Government can look at.
“Schools should reopen as quickly as possible when it is safe to do so.”

Ms Reid again questioned about what the Labour Party wanted with schools and what their overall plan is.
She said: “If vaccination is part of Labour’s overall plan to get schools back safely, you are effectively saying that without vaccination schools will be an unsafe environment for teachers.”
Ms Rayner snapped: “That is not what I am saying Susanna and that is not what I have said.
“What we are saying is as part of a plan to combat schools having to open and close.

“What we need to do really is put a number of measures in place that includes testing in our classroom.
“This is so we know where the virus is, it includes plans to vaccinate our teachers and support staff over half term so it is less disruption as part of that roll out.
“This is so we can look at having a plan to get our schools reopened, you cannot just have a hope to do it.”
“You have got to have a plan to make it happen.”
