‘That’s a way not to let Rashid have an impact’: Warner’s tweet after Sydney Thunder’s 15 all out went viral

In Match No. 5 of the ongoing Big Bash League 2022–23 season, the Sydney Thunder were up against the Adelaide Strikers at the Sydney Showground Stadium on Friday, December 16. Adelaide Strikers’ skipper Peter Siddle won the toss and opted to bat first, after which his team posted a total of 139 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets. The match was expected to be a closely fought contest as the target wasn’t that big, but what happened in the second inning was beyond everyone’s expectations. The Thunder could only manage to post 15 runs on the board. Yes, only 15. Henry Thornton (5 wickets for 3 runs) and Wes Agar (4 wickets for 6 runs) ran riot and dismissed the former BBL winners for the lowest ever total in men’s T20 history.
The highest total by any Thunder batter was four runs, and that was scored by No. 10 batter Brendan Doggett, who scored the only boundary for the Thunder. The hosts could only manage to bat for 5.5 overs. And their stunning batting collapse invited various reactions from fans and former cricketers from Australia and around the world as well.
While former Australian pacer Brett Lee said he was speechless, England’s Test captain Ben Stokes and pacer Jofra Archer took to Twitter to share their shocked reactions. And in between all this, one tweet that is going viral on the internet is from Sydney Thunder’s star batter, David Warner. Warner, who is set to play for the Thunder in upcoming matches, took to Twitter to react to the result and joked that it was one way to keep his former Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate Rashid Khan from making an impact in the game. The Afghanistan spinner was part of the Adelaide Strikers’ playing XI but didn’t even bowl one ball in the match as the match got over before he could start.

Aside from mocking his own team, Warner praised the Strikers’ performance, saying they were “too good” on the day.
“Well played strikers, too good,” tweeted Warner.
Warner, who was scheduled to play in the first Test of the three-match series against South Africa at the Gabba on Saturday (December 17), was awake till late on Friday (December 16) for the game, and when a fan asked the left-handed opening batter to get some rest before the first Test, the Australian opener said that he was watching the game as the Thunder were his team and backed them to bounce back from this embarrassing result.
“That’s my team, I was watching. I can’t believe it. We will bounce back don’t worry about that,” tweeted Warner.
Warner, who has played twice for the Thunder in the past, last featured in the BBL during the 2013-14 season, but this time he has again signed for the league and will play for the Sydney-based team after the conclusion of the Australia-South Africa Test series.
