Houston Texans receiver Will Fuller has been suspended six games for violation of the NFL’s performance enhancing drug policy.

According to an Instagram post written on Fuller’s official account, the former 2016 first-round receiver took substances to treat a medical issue in the offseason. Fuller says that he was unaware they were against the league’s policy, even though he trusted that they were.

“Earlier this year, I sought treatment from a medical professional who prescribed medication that he believed to be permitted under the NFL’s drug policy,” Fuller wrote. “As it turns out, my trust in this professional was misplaced because this medication was NOT a permitted substance under the NFL Policy on Performance Enhancing Substances.”

The suspension will keep Fuller out of the Texans’ final five games of 2020. The fifth-year wideout was a key part of the Texans’ passing game, and Deshaun Watson’s most prolific target with 53 catches for 879 yards and eight touchdowns.

“As a result of this mistake, I have been suspended six games for taking this prohibited medication,” Fuller wrote. “I want to sincerely apologize to the Texans organization and all of my fans for this mistake. I am looking forward to putting this all behind me and returning better than ever in 2021.”

The Texans’ next leading receiver is Brandin Cooks, who has caught 52 passes for 719 yards and three touchdowns. Receiver Randall Cobb is next closest with 38 grabs for 441 yards and three touchdowns.

Houston hosts the Indianapolis Colts Sunday at 12:00 p.m. CT at NRG Stadium.
