The Houston Texans are going to the playoffs in head coach DeMeco Ryans’ first year at the helm after beating the Indianapolis Colts 23-19 on Saturday.
The win on Saturday marked the Texans’ first 10-win season since 2019, which was also when they last made it to the postseason. Houston’s 10-7 record marks just its fifth 10-win season since the team’s inaugural season in 2002.
Per KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, Ryans is ecstatic to lead his team to the postseason.
“It feels awesome,” Ryans said after the win.
The Texans have had quite the turnaround since last season, when they went 3-13-1, and it has started with Ryans, who was hired after Houston fired Lovie Smith. Now, Ryans will look to continue his first-year success in the playoffs.
The Texans have looked to rookie quarterback CJ Stroud as their leader this season. On Saturday, Stroud delivered with a 264-yard, two-touchdown performance to will his team into the playoffs. Stroud has thrown for 3,844 yards and 21 touchdowns this season while throwing just five interceptions.
With the playoff-clinching win, the Texans now have the chance to clinch the division, but it’s out of their hands. If the Jacksonville Jaguars lose to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Houston will win the AFC South.
The Texans have had four head coaches in as many seasons, and it seems they could be on their way to some stability with Ryans leading them.
