In a new interview, Tessa Thompson has confirmed what kind of royal status her Marvel character, Valkyrie, will have in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Tessa Thompson will be reprising her Marvel Cinematic Universe role of Valkyrie in Thor: Love and Thunder and has confirmed her character’s new royal title.

“Yeah. I can tease that she’s definitely King of New Asgard when we find her,” Thompson said in an interview with The Playlist. “And as was the case in the last four, I would say that she’s a part of an adventure that involved Thor, in the sense that it’s called Thor: Love and Thunder.”

This aligns with prior comments made by Thompson when Thor: Love and Thunder was first officially announced. “As new King, she needs to find her new queen,” Thompson remarked at the 2019 Comic-Con International in San Diego. “So that’ll be her first order of business, she has some ideas. I’ll keep you posted.”

This news comes amid a flurry of developments for Thor: Love and Thunder as it prepares to begin filming. Among these developments have been the confirmation of Jamie Alexander returning as Lady Sif and the reveal that Christian Bale will play the villainous Gorr the God Butcher.

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord and Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher. The film arrives in theaters May 6, 2022.
