Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence Jr. Is a Bigger Fight Than Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua, Argues Stephen A. Smith

Errol #Errol

Famous sports analyst and presenter, Stephen A. Smith, has made a bold claim about the biggest fight in 2021. The outspoken commentator claimed that the potential Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence Jr. bout is bigger than the Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua bout.

The Fury-Joshua fight has been the talk of the sport for a while now. After weeks of negotiations and speculation, the pair finally signed a two-fight contract. And although the announcement sent the boxing world into a frenzy, it did not impress Smith.

He spoke to Max Kellerman on their show, ‘First Take’ on ESPN, and explained his views. The American said, “The fight that everybody should want is Terence Crawford vs. Errol Spence. Period. That is the fight everyone should want. That is the number one, desirable fight in all of combat sports.”

This is a bold comment given the hype surrounding the undisputed heavyweight title fight. However, Smith is famous for his opinions, and it will not surprise fans that he is not buying into the Fury-Joshua hype.

Smith then explained that the only reason the hype for Spence Jr. vs. Crawford died down was because of Spence Jr.’s car-crash. With these comments, he made no secret of the bout he is looking forward to.

The presenter will have caused a stir among combat sports fans, given the extreme nature of his claims. So does Stephen A. Smith have a point when he says the Crawford-Spence Jr. fight is bigger than Fury-Joshua?

Spence Jr. and Crawford have dominated the welterweight division for a while now. However, both fighters have avoided fighting each other. Moreover, after their respective victories at the end of 2020, both fighters refrained from calling for the bout.

In comparison, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua have built up their collision for a while. Moreover, they have made no secret of their desire to box each other. In addition, this bout will be for the undisputed title in a more exciting division.

We cannot say the same for the Crawford-Spence Jr. match-up. Both fighters seem content with not fighting each other, and the welterweight division is not as intriguing as the heavyweight division. Therefore, it would not be as big an event as the Fury-Joshua bout.
