The new free trade agreement between the United Kingdom and Australia is a “win-win” for both countries according to Trade Minister Dan Tehan. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced the deal on Tuesday, the first new trade deal the UK has made since leaving the European Union. “For the first time we have a free trade agreement which really delivers for our rice growers, our cane growers, our beef, our lamb producers and our dairy producers,” Mr Tehan told Sky News. “That’s wonderful for the Australian agricultural sector and rights that wrong of 50 years ago when the UK turned to the EU and in many ways left us stranded”. Mr Tehan said the sugarcane industry would particularly benefit from the trade deal, with “immediate access of 80 kilotons into the UK market”. “That grows by 20 kilotons a year until all tariffs are eliminated in year eight. “Being able to get those outcomes for rice and sugar in particular in this agreement has been very welcome news.”
