Teen sensation Sam Walker reportedly set to re-sign with Sydney Roosters on long-term deal

Teen sensation Sam Walker is reportedly set to re-sign with the Sydney Roosters on a long-term deal, just weeks after making his NRL debut.

The 18-year old has been impressive in his three first grade games to date, highlighted by a match-winning performance against Cronulla in round five.

Walker was brought into the Roosters lineup after injuries to Luke Keary and Lachlan Lam, and has lived up to all the hype surrounding him so far.

And on Wednesday night, news broke that the emerging star will be inking a new deal in the coming days.

Senior reporter Lara Pitt revealed on NRL 360 that Walker has been in negotiations with the club even before his debut, and talks are set to ramp up over the weekend.

“The Roosters have already tabled a four-year offer before he even played first grade and were super keen to get him stitched up,” she said

“He and his family and his management were happy to see how the start to the season unfolded. Now that time has come, he’s got a few games under his belt.

“They are in town this weekend ahead of the Anzac Day game.

“They are going to sit down with recruitment tomorrow and by next week, the Roosters are hopeful of a three or four-year deal done.”

Walker came through the ranks with the Ipswich Jets, and has represented both the Queensland U18s and Australian Schoolboys.

The playmaker joined the Tricolours in 2020, but was unable to feature during the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sam is of course bred from a strong rugby league family, with his father Ben Walker playing first grade for the Broncos, his uncle Chris Walker playing State of Origin for QLD and other uncle Shane Walker playing 149 NRL games. 

Walker is off-contract at the end of 2021, and securing his long-term future will no doubt be an important piece in the puzzle for the Roosters as they look to continue their dominance in the NRL. 

There is plenty of movement across the player market at the moment, especially in the halves.

Chad Townsend has signed a three-year deal with the Cowboys, while Broncos young gun Tom Dearden has been touted as another potential target for the club.

Rabbitohs captain Adam Reynolds is yet to decide his future and has been linked with Cronulla, Parramatta and Brisbane, with Mitchell Moses and Anthony Milford both off-contract and potentially on the move,
