A teenager pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Angellyh Yambo.

Yambo was shot and killed on the corner of Saint Ann Avenue and East 156th Street in the Bronx just over one year ago.

Law enforcement officials say that Yambo was not the intended target in the shooting. They say Yambo was on her way home from school with two other teens when she was caught in the crossfire of gunshots.

Jeremiah Ryan pleaded guilty in a deal giving him 15 years to life with a parole hearing every two years after the 15 years are served. The family of Yambo was in attendance and accepted the plea deal, saying they did not want to take the chance of the case going to trial.

“I wanted him to do the max, which is 25 to life. I would’ve been more satisfied with that sentence,” said Yambo’s mother. “I won’t have my baby back. But at least it’s a possibility that he will be there forever… this is a chapter that is closing away, but we still have to keep fighting.”

Ryan will appear in court next month in the Bronx for his official sentencing.
