Team USA basketball vs. France score, Tokyo Olympics: Live updates as United States plays Summer Games opener

Team USA #TeamUSA

Team USA tips off its 2020 Olympic schedule with a preliminary-round matchup against France — the team that defeated the United States quarterfinals of the 2019 FIBA World Cup the last time they met. Given that fact, it’s safe to say Team USA won’t be taking this meeting with France lightly. The U.S. looks to capture its fourth straight gold medal after finishing on top in 2008, 2012 and 2016. France overcomes a halftime deficit with a big third quarter and leads Team USA 62-56 entering the fourth.

Though the United States lost to France during the FIBA World Cup in 2019, that was a different group of players than the roster which has traveled to Tokyo. Team USA has never lost to France in actual Olympic play. The two teams have met six times in the Olympics, with the most recent meeting coming in the first round of the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. The U.S. will obviously be looking to extend that streak this time around, while France will be looking to secure its first Olympic victory over America.
