Liberal MP Tim Wilson says proposed tax cuts need to be done in a “prudent and responsible way” to ensure the “long-term health” of the budget.
The government will not bring forward its stage three tax cuts applies to middle income workers and would see the 32.5 per cent income tax rate applied to earnings between 40,000 and 200,000.
Mr Wilson said while he supports tax cuts, the government needs to ensure all changes to the tax system are “sustainable”.
“We don’t want to give on one hand and then take away,” he said.
“I will always support a tax cut, but it needs to be done in a prudent and responsible way for the long-term health of the budget.”
