England’s Sam Curran became the joint second-highest wicket-taker among pacers in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. Curran, finished with 13 wickets to his name after a stunning spell of 3/12 in the finals against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. This took him to 13 wickets in the tournament, the second-highest among pacers in the history of the competition.
Curran in the pace bowler’s list, shares the second position with Umar Gull, while the rankings are led by Dirk Nannes.
The England medium-pacer on the day, threatened with his ability of adapting to the conditions and dismissed Mohammad Rizwan, SHan Masood and Mohammad Nawaz. He has been the pick among England bowlers so far in the tournament and did well against India as well in the semi-finals. If it were not for Hardik Pandya’s late onslaught, Curran would have come out with exceptional figures from the game.
Coming to the match, England produced to a stunning bowling effort in the first half of the match, exploiting the pace and bounce of the new MCG track. The team restricted Pakistan for just 137 runs in the finals giving them the best chance to lift the title.
Curran played a crucial part in the game and now lies ahead of legends like Trent Boult, India’s RP Singh and Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga. The highest wicket-takers list (spinners and pacers combined) is largely dominated by the slower bowlers. Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga leads the list with 16 wickets from the 2021/22 edition of the T20 World Cup.
