Sydney lockdown protests slammed as idiotic and selfish, as half of Australia is in lockdown

Sydney CBD #SydneyCBD

Thousands of Sydneysiders who have taken to the streets in the CBD in a “freedom rally” have been slammed for endangering lives.

The anti-lockdown demonstrators have been labelled “clowns”, “idiots” and “unbelievably selfish” by those watching events unfold on social media, many of them in lockdown around the country.

The gathering, which police say was unauthorised, started around noon in Camperdown’s Victoria Park and was advertised as a “rally for freedom”.

“Sydney CBD takeover,” organisers wrote online. “Vehicle convoy and foot march.”

The protest was described as “huge” from people on the ground, with thousands of protesters spilling into the streets.

Chants include “f*ck the media” and “Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi”.

Prominent journalists and scientists on Twitter expressed disgust at the protests.

“I am heartbroken watching the unmasked and unauthorised protest going on in Sydney. WTF,” said one person on social media.

“’Being part of a possible super spreader event from Camperdown to the CBD’ – yep add that to your cv.”

“Who are these f**king idiots?” said another.

“Can’t express enough my rage at the large anti-lockdown protest now happening in Sydney. Looks like a thousand+.”

Added a third: “Just watched videos of the protest happening right now in Sydney, I’ve never wanted natural selection to work so bad in my life!”

“The scenes from the Sydney protest are infuriating and heartbreaking. Unbelievably selfish, but a sign of desperation from some? Will we ever be free of Delta?,” tweeted another.

On Twitter, another person said: “Anyone attending the anti lockdown protest in Sydney should forfeit their right to ANY medical treatment.”

“Stupid idiots in Sydney holding crowds to protest against lockdown because apparently that‘s going to do f**king anything at all and not pose a risk to the wider community who are abiding to the lockdown f**king orders,” someone else commented.

“A reminder everyone at Australian BLM protests last year were wearing masks and, where possible, socially distancing,” another concerned citizen said on Twitter.

“This lockdown protest in Sydney has none of that.”
