Sweeny Murti did it all working the last three decades at WFAN radio. He joined New York’s powerhouse all-sports station as a producer in 1993, the year after the Middletown, Pa.. graduated at Penn State with a degree in broadcast journalism.

Murti eventually got some on-air time doing updates, then 22 years ago he was promoted to Yankees reporter. He found his niche tracking down exclusive information while developing good relationships with many players because of his baseball knowledge, work habits and infectious personality.

Long-time Yankees writers will tell you Murti had a better working relationship with franchise Derek Jeter than most everyone, and they were together for part of those franchise glory days.

Murti even filled in calling a few Yankees games over the years, and he was very good at that, too.

Murti, 52, broke another story Friday morning announcing on Twitter that it was his last day at WFAN. He did not report why he’s departing or what his next job will be, or if it’s even lined up, but he did include a heartfelt five-paragraph message to his listeners:

“My time at WFAN has come to an end. It was a dream job that lasted 30 years. Unfortunately, it’s time to move on.

“Along the way I was so privileged to work on the biggest events with legendary performers and personalities. The highlight of it all was spending the last 22 years talking to you about the New York Yankees.

“I tried to bring the right amounts of confidence and humility on the air. I strived to hold my own with the great host on our station and just tried to make good radio with every appearance.

“Everything good in my adult life truly began when I started as a producer at the FAN in March 1993. More good things are on the way, of that I am sure. I am eager to begin the next chapter.

“Thanks to everyone who helped to bring me here, keep me here and thrive here. Thanks to so many wonderful friends and colleagues who made going to work fun. And thanks to every one of you for listening and taking this ride with me. It has truly been my honor, and I hope you will join me on the next adventure.”
