Suspect found with arsenal, ammo faces federal charges

The man found in possession of 15 firearms, ammo and more than $24,000 is now facing federal charges.

Samuel Carreon-Ibarra, 40, was charged with felon in possession of a firearm or ammo and migrant in possession of a firearm and ammo.

On Feb. 8, police officers responded to a shots fired report by Redfish Drive and Cisneros Street. Later that night, officers pulled over a black Nissan Armada for a traffic violation. One occupant was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

The other occupant stated brief details about the shooting that occurred in the 100 block of Larga Vista Drive and identified a male involved as Carreon-Ibarra. Authorities obtained a search warrant for the location on Larga Vista.

Police also discovered that Carreon-Ibarra was a wanted fugitive who had several Homeland Security Investigations warrants for narcotics, according to an arrest affidavit.

At about 9:45 a.m. Feb. 9, LPD’s Texas Anti-Gang Unit executed a no-knock search warrant at the home on Larga Vista with the assistance of the LPD SWAT Team.

Other assisting agencies included the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, U.S. Border Patrol’s Firearms and Anti-Smuggling Team, U.S. Marshals, HSI and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Authorities located Carreon-Ibarra, a woman and their 1-month-old baby. Carreon-Ibarra and the woman were detained without incident. During a search of the property, authorities located and seized the following firearms:

*Panther Arms, model DPMS, 7.62x51mm rifle.

*Maverick, model 88, 12 gauge shotgun.

*German Sport Guns (GSG), model 522, .22 caliber rifle.

*Savage Arms, model 64, .22 caliber rifle.

*Sig Sauer, P320, 9mm pistol.

*Sig Sauer, P220, .45 caliber pistol.

*Ruger, Super Blackhawk, .44 magnum revolver.

*Remington, model 770, .270 caliber rifle.

*Marlin, model 60W, .22 caliber rifle.

*Maverick, model 88, 12-gauge shotgun.

*Maverick, model 88, 12 gauge shotgun.

*Walther, P99, .40 caliber pistol.

*Beretta, model APX, 9mm pistol.

*Heritage, MFG, .22 caliber revolver.

*American Tactical, Omni Hybrid, 5.56mm rifle.

Authorities also found multiple firearm accessories inside the residence and $24,600 inside the master bedroom. Police also seized 1.3 ounces of marijuana. A cabined located inside a shack in the rear of the property contained multiple boxes of ammo of various calibers.

When Carreon-Ibarra was detained, he had a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson P99 by his side. A GAMO USA pellet gun was located in the restroom, according to the affidavit.

Police also searched a white Cadillac CTS and found an ice chest with four packages of marijuana weighing 24.1 ounces. A Vaultz combination container was opened and revealed 9.6 ounces of marijuana, police said.

Carreon-Ibarra was taken to LPD headquarters for an interview. Regarding the deadly conduct, Carreon-Ibarra stated he had been visited by two of his nephews who were in a black Nissan Armada.

“Carreon-Ibarra stated they were attempting to make a deal of a ton of marijuana with a subject who was only identified as ‘Nugget,’” states the affidavit.

Negotiations escalated which resulted in the occupants of a gray Ford Taurus firing shots toward Carreon-Ibarra and his nephews. But Carreon-Ibarra later changed his statement saying that he was the one who shot at the Taurus. He stated he shot several times and then picked up the casings to throw them to a property across his residence, according to the affidavit.

Carreon-Ibarra was arrested and charged in state court with deadly conduct, tampering with physical evidence and possession of marijuana. He was additionally charged with failure to identify because he initially gave a false name.

Federal authorities then took over the case.

Carreon-Ibarra told federal law enforcement that he was born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico and is unlawfully present in the United States. He also stated that he went to both state and federal prison.

On Oct. 20, 2003, Carreon-Ibarra was convicted of unlawful carrying of a weapon on alcohol premises and deadly conduct. He was sentenced in the 341st District Court to two years in prison.

On Jan. 18, 2008, Carreon-Ibarra was convicted of attempted reentry of a deported migrant and was sentenced to 78 months in prison at the Southern District of Texas.

“Furthermore, Carreon-Ibarra told law enforcement that he possessed and had access to all the firearms and ammunition, including the tactical bullet proof vest that were found on the property,” states a federal criminal complaint.
