Super Bowl LV injury report: Chiefs’ Watkins, Bucs’ Brown active

Feb. 7 (UPI) — Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wideout Antonio Brown both are active for Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla.
Watkins, who was listed as questionable with a calf injury, is officially active after missing the Chiefs’ last three games. His return could be significant for the Chiefs, as the speedy wideout recorded five receptions for 98 yards in Kansas City’s Super Bowl LIV win last year.
Earlier in the week, the Chiefs activated receiver Demarcus Robinson from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Kansas City, however, will be without starting offensive lineman Eric Fisher (Achilles) and linebacker Willie Gay Jr. (knee/ankle) for the championship game.
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers listed Brown as active for the first time since the team’s playoff win over the New Orleans Saints last month. He suffered a knee injury in that divisional-round game that forced him to miss the Bucs’ NFC Championship Game victory over the Green Bay Packers.
The Buccaneers also listed tight end Cameron Brate and veteran running back LeSean McCoy as active. Brate landed on the injury report Thursday because of a back problem, which caused him to sit out Friday’s practice.
Buccaneers defensive backs Jordan Whitehead (shoulder/knee) and Antoine Winfield Jr. (ankle) are available to play in Super Bowl LV. Both players had been limited all week in practice before full sessions Friday. They didn’t carry injury designations into Sunday’s game.
The defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs are set to take on the Buccaneers at 6:30 p.m. EST in Tampa.
