The Phoenix Suns take on the Denver Nuggets tonight at 7 PM PST for Game 6 of their second-round series, facing a win or go home scenario.
In times like these, the Suns need superstar Kevin Durant to rise to the occasion and help keep their season (and championship hopes) alive.
Durant has had a strong series in the box score, averaging 30.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and five assists per night.
It’s Durant’s efficiency that has been the main concern as he is shooting 22.2% from three-point land, which for a great shooter like Durant is pretty below average. There’s also been plenty of times where Durant has started out sluggish out the gates with 1-7 or 2-8 performances.
The Suns traded for Durant not just to be a good player, but rather to be the superstar that brings this team over the hump. If Phoenix is going to win this game and ultimately the series against Denver, they need Durant to shoot the basketball at an efficient level from start to finish.
Fellow star Devin Booker sees things differently.
“Man, I’m just trying to win,” Booker said earlier this series. “I always say, and it’s something that I’ll tell KD, like throw that efficiency s— out the window. I don’t care about that. Just keep going, keep attacking, keep being aggressive.”
In Game 5, Durant was disappointing shooting 10-24 from the field and 0-3 from three with a minus-19 rating. With the season on the line, those types of shooting numbers from Durant are just not going to cut it.
Durant is one of the best and most efficient shooters the world has ever seen. He has the ability to pull up from virtually anywhere on the court. The Suns need to see that efficient version of Durant tonight if they want to extend their season another day.
Booker has already had countless standout games during this Suns playoff run, but it’s time for Durant to do the same and show why he is one of the most lethal basketball players on the planet.
