Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams was unhappy again with the lack of equal officiating in the loss to the Milwaukee Bucks.
PHOENIX — Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams has reached his boiling point.
The Suns fell to the Milwaukee Bucks to mark their third-straight loss on the season. Still without Kevin Durant, Phoenix must figure out how to navigate most – if not all – of the regular season without their newly acquired superstar.
Williams will have to figure out plenty of things with just 13 games left in the regular season. One thing he can’t seem to grasp is the officiating/foul call distribution between his Suns and opposing teams.
It was something Williams touched on in the loss against the Sacramento Kings, so it was a familiar (and more fiery) message he delivered to reporters after the Bucks shot 37 free throws to Phoenix’s 16.
Giannis Antetokounmpo himself shot 24 free throw attempts and had one foul called his way in 35 minutes of action.
Williams wasn’t too thrilled with that, and he let his emotions out during his postgame press conference:
Prior to the game, Williams touched on the lessons learned from narrowly falling to Milwaukee 104-101 in their prior matchup:
“You just have to be able to play 48 minutes of physical basketball. You can’t get deflated when they go on a run or Giannis has an and-one dunk. There is so many things that can happen in that game when you watch teams get a big lead on them,” Williams said pregame.
“It only takes three or four mistakes on defense to allow them to get on a roll. They have so many guys that can make shots off of the dribble and they have guys that can knock down shots and catch shots. They have Giannis (Antetokounmpo). You have to stay the course and you can’t be comfortable with the lead.”
The lack of calls going Phoenix’s way isn’t new, but it’s growing rather old for Williams.
The Suns return to action on Thursday against the Orlando Magic.
