Sunderland vs Portsmouth half-time ratings: How Black Cats have rated so far

HALF TIME #HALFTIME

Sunderland have some work to do if they are to get back into today’s game with Portsmouth.

A whirlwind start at the Stadium of Light saw two goals in the opening ten minutes.

Marcus Harness opened the scoring for the visitors, but their lead didn’t last long, with Charlie Wyke again on hand for the Black Cats.

He got on the end of Denver Hume’s cross to level the scores minutes after Pompey’s opener.

Lee Burge had to be alert to keep out efforts from Raggett and Jacobs as the visitors pressed again.

Sunderland didn’t heed the warnings and John Marquis put Portsmouth back ahead after more sloppy play.

Chris Maguire blazed over as the home side looked for a leveller.

Here’s how James Hunter has rated the Sunderland players so far. You can follow the second half, plus get all the full-time reaction and analysis in our live blog here.

LEE BURGE 6

Got a hand to the first goal, but could do nothing about the second. Has made two good saves

JORDAN WILLIS 5

Back in the side but has looked below-par

BAILEY WRIGHT 5

Sunderland’s defence has been all at sea, and his usual calming influence has been absent

LUKE O’NIEN 4

Caught out a couple of times and looks to be feeling the after-effects of a 50-50 challenge

LYNDEN GOOCH 5

Played in the right wingback role again but has had little opportunity to get forward

JOSH SCOWEN 5

Wasted a good shooting chance from a free-kick, and has struggled to make any impact

GRANT LEADBITTER 5

Pompey pounced on a sloppy pass, and it led to their second goal

MAX POWER 5

Hasn’t been able to assert himself in midfield

DENVER HUME 6

Not great for Pompey’s first goal, but made up for it with the run and cross for Wyke’s equaliser

CHRIS MAGUIRE 4

One volley that went over the bar, otherwise a peripheral figure

CHARLIE WYKE 6

Got in front of his marker to put Sunderland back on terms – for a while, anyway
