Beatrice Luigi Gomez waxed emotional as she looked back on her journey as Miss Universe Philippines moments before she passed on the title to a new empowered Pinay beauty queen.

The 27-year-old Cebuana beauty queen looked stunning in her black suit, which she wore during her tribute segment at the grand coronation night of the Miss Universe Philippines 2022, held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Saturday night, April 30, 2022.

In a short interview with the pageant’s hosts, former Miss Universe titleholders Pia Wurtzbach, Iris Mittenaere, and Demi-Leigh Tebow, Bea admitted that she got emotional just before the show started.

She said, “I know I had a different answer way back at the rehearsals earlier, but right before the show started, I have only been trying to hold back my tears the whole time.

“I felt better after the swimsuit competition but then I saw the video, and I just couldn’t help myself but cry, just right before going out and doing my walk again.”

Asked about her plans after her reign, she answered, “I will still definitely continue my community work, but other than that, I will pursue my other dreams.

“I would like to continue and go back to school, get my master’s and take up social psychology. And hopefully, after that, I will be able to build a career in hosting.

“Thanks to my family at Empire, Miss Universe Philippines, and Mercator, as well.”

When Iris asked Bea what her most memorable moment was as Miss Universe Philippines, Bea replied that it was the time she flew to Israel for the Miss Universe 2021 pageant.

She recalled, “There’s actually a lot, but one of the most memorable experiences that I had was going to Israel.

“It was the moment that I had to recollect all the training, all of the lessons that I’ve learned after Miss Universe Philippines.”

Bea continued, “And, you know, with the pandemic, it’s been quite a while since I’ve been able to travel outside the country.

“And being able to experience that in Israel, and meeting my sisters, Nandita [Banna] who’s here in the audience, I see you.

“And Harnaaz, as well. Gaining a lot of friends from different parts of the world is definitely one of the most memorable experience for me.”

Miss Universe Singapore 2021 Nandita Banna was Bea’s roommate during last year’s Miss Universe pageant.

Aside from Nandita, Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu, who is also serving as one of the judges of the Miss Universe Philippines 2022, also became good friends with Bea during the competition.

The short interview continued with Demi asking Bea how her life changed since she was crowned.

Bea answered, “It changed me a whole lot. I used to be a scared little girl who’s always scared to get out of my comfort zone.

“But then I… I was able to get out of my shell and face my fears and I’m so glad that I was able to do it because there’s so much greater things behind that fear.

“And I’m so glad that I was able to get past that.

Bea was also asked to describe her reign in three words, to which she answered, “fruitful, humbling and memorable.”

She added, “Being able to stand here in this stage together with all of you, I already feel like I’ve won the Miss Universe crown myself.”

Towards the end of the segment, Bea thanked everyone who took part in this journey with her.

She said, “I’m so grateful to each and everyone of you who have been in my jouney, my Miss Universe Philippines Organization family, Aces & Queens, Bea Bees…

“Everyone who supported me in this journey, all of the pageant fans, thank you so much for all of yourself and for believing in me. I wouldn’t be able to do all of this without your help. Thank you so much.”

The beauty queen added that she is looking forward to working with her successor.

“I am just so excited to welcome my co-worker in continuing the advocacy that Miss Universe Philippines is promoting and one of which is menstruation equity, which is also promoted by my very good friend, Harnaaz.

“And also, the rights of children. And definitely, I will be working with Miss Universe Philippines Organization still. I will still be with them for the next couple of months.”
