Suella Braverman was so outspoken at Tory conference that by the time it came for her keynote speech she was losing her voice.

“I don’t want to do a Theresa May,” she joked to aides before her big moment.

She had jeopardised the India trade deal by criticising Indian migrants, was slapped down by No 10 after saying Britain should leave the European Convention on Human Rights, contradicted Liz Truss’s economic growth plan by insisting net migration must fall to the “tens of thousands” and prompted
