Stu on Sports: Could Canadiens trade Phil Danault instead of Max Domi?

Could the Canadiens end up trading Phillip Danault instead of Max Domi?
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman thinks so.
During his weekly segment Thursday with former NHLers Andrew Peters and Craig Rivet on The Instigators show on WGR Sports Radio 550 in Buffalo, Friedman was asked if he had heard about any trade offers concerning Domi.
“I got in trouble for what I said last week, so how much trouble do I want to get in again this week?” Friedman said with a sigh after stating last week that “all options are on the table” with Domi.
Friedman reported last Saturday that Domi’s new agent, Darren Ferris, had met with Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin and that the player had not asked for a trade.
“But I think Montreal has a question here,” Friedman said Thursday. “They got two young centres who are going to be their guys for a long time — (Nick) Suzuki and (Jesperi) Kotkaniemi — they hope. And then they’ve got Danault, who’s a free agent after next year, and they’ve got Domi, who needs a new contract now. I think they’ll look at the market for both those guys, just see what’s out there, what the interest is,” Friedman added. “Danault came right out and said he’s not crazy (about) his situation where he’s the No. 3 centre, so I think Montreal’s going to look and say: ‘OK, what’s the market for him?’ So I think there’s a chance it could be Danault who goes instead of Domi.”
