Stroud, Texans lead Jags on the road in the second half

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Houston Texans went to Jacksonville and left with their first win of the season, beating the division-rival Jaguars, 37-17.

Houston moves to 1-2 on the season while the Jags fall to 1-2.

Making the third start of his career, Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud was 20-for-30 for 280 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions.

First half highlights

After one half of football, it was so far, so good. In the first two quarters, Stroud was 14 of 21 for 162 yards and one touchdown. Running back, Dameon Pierce also found the end zone, while the defense held Trevor Lawrence and the Jags off the scoreboard.

Jacksonville had two chances to get on the board in the first half — both field goals. One was missed, the other was blocked.

Houston got the scoring started with a one-yard scoring run by Pierce that was set up by a bomb from Stroud to Tank Dell.

Houston would add another touchdown on this Stroud to Brevin Jordan touchdown pass.

Houston would add a field goal just before the half to take a 17-0 lead into the locker room.

Second half highlights

Jacksonville got on the board on their first drive of the second half after a pass interference call gave the Jags the ball at the 1-yard line.

Jacksonville would add a field goal to cut the Texans’ lead to 17-10.

Houston would extend the lead on the ensuing kickoff. Andrew Beck took this one to the house to give Houston a 24-10 lead.

Houston tacked on a field goal early in the 4th quarter.

After the Jaguars struck for a TD to cut into Houston’s lead, Stroud connected with Dell for a 68-yard touchdown in the middle of the final quarter, putting the Texans up 34-17.

The Texans added another field goal to make it a 37-17 game with just over 2 minutes to go.
