Strong to severe storms possible Monday

Good Monday #GoodMonday

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Good Monday morning.  Today is a First Alert Weather Day for the potential of strong to severe storms developing through the morning into the afternoon.

We will start off the early morning with periods of scattered rain showers and isolated rumbles of thunder, morning temperatures are mild in the middle 50s.  A warm front is currently off to our south and this will gradually lift north through the morning into the afternoon.  The lifting warm front will bring a more humid airmass with it and temperatures will warm into the low to middle 60s even with the overcast skies.  As the cold front approaches from the west, we will be tracking the potential of strong to severe storms developing along the front and moving eastward.  The main concerns will be additional heavy rainfall, flash flooding, 40+ mph wind gusts, frequent cloud to ground lightning and small hail.

The threat for strong storms will end around 5:00 PM and additional showers will be expected overnight.  There is a chance of seeing a wintry mix or even some light snow showers overnight into Tuesday morning.  A dusting of snow on grassy areas may be possible in parts of Middle Tennessee with no impacts expected as far as travel goes.

Tuesday will be a return to normal with ample sunshine and breezy winds, temps will be cooler in the low to middle 50s.  Valentine’s Day Wednesday will be another nice day with more sunshine and warmer highs in the lower 60s.  Our next chance of rain showers will be Friday night into Saturday.
