Strictly Come Dancing has never been short on controversy, but this year the show has reached a boiling point all thanks to one contestant.

Layton Williams, 29, who performed in drag for Movies Week, has been causing quite a stir behind the scenes with his revealing outfits and the producers are reportedly struggling to get enough appropriate footage of him. Layton, who danced the Viennese waltz on Saturday dressed as Grease Pink Lady Betty Rizzo, has been advised by the camera crew to wear more clothes. He said: “I keep getting told by the camera crew to wear more clothes.

“In the training room, they’re like: ‘We’re seeing a lot of things.’ But this is how I feel comfortable. I’ve got my jock strap on. It’s the BBC. But everything is nice and tight and together.” Last week, the show said goodbye to its second contestant, Radio DJ Nikita Kanda, after she faced Love Islander Zara McDermott in the dance-off. All four judges opted to save Zara, noting that Nikita made mistakes during her jive to Kids In America from Clueless.

A devastated Nikita expressed her disappointment and said: “I don’t want to leave yet, I feel like I’ve let him down. This has been a dream come true.” But her dance partner, Gorka Márquez, reassured her and said: “You should be very proud of yourself, you have never let me down.”

Meanwhile, Layton has been jokingly ruling out falling victim to the infamous Strictly curse. His dance partner, Nikita Kuzmin, is straight and in a relationship with Australian TikTok star Charlie Backshall. Layton said on Alan Carr’s Life’s A Beach podcast: “I know he doesn’t want me, so that makes it so much easier.”
