Layton #Layton

Strictly Come Dancing spoilers follow.

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood gave a rare standing ovation to Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin in tonight’s semi-final, as he described their Charleston as the best he had seen on the show.

Tonight’s (December 9) episode saw the remaining four celebrities – Layton, Ellie Leach, Annabel Croft and Bobby Brazier – compete for a spot in the final, with each couple performing two routines for the first time.

Layton and Nikita’s second dance of the night, a spectacularly energetic Charleston, wowed the judges and audience alike, with even the pickiest judge of them all getting off his feet to applaud their performance.

“That was the best Charleston I have ever seen in 20 years, darling, on this programme,” said Craig after lengthy applause, with fellow judge Motsi Mabuse remarking that her co-star had “said it all”.

Fans of the show reacted with excitement to Craig’s gesture, with one viewer writing on X: “the way I just YELLED at Craig simply standing up and clapping. I’m so happy for Layton”. Another fan also loved the moment, writing: “Craig on his feet. He was right. Layton was incredible!!”

The pair were unsurprisingly awarded the maximum 40 points for the routine, following the 36 they accrued for the Rumba. Added to the 40 they received last week, the pair were at the top of the leaderboard with a whopping 116 points from a possible 120.

Ellie and Vito Coppola were in second place with 111, closely followed by Bobby and Dianne Buswell on 107. Annabel and Johannes Radebe were at the bottom with a score of 98, with the public vote deciding which two couples will be in tomorrow’s dance-off.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
