Gorka Marquez was left fuming and broken hearted as he and Helen Skelton missed out on the all important glitterball trophy as Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal scooped the grand prize despite coming bottom of the leaderboard on the night.

The top scorers were actually Fleur East and Vito Coppola, while Hamza and Jowita scored the lowest on the night from the judges.

But it means nothing in the final as the judges’ scores are just for guidance and the public’s vote is the sole metric for picking the winner.

It’s the the third year in a row that Spanish pro dancer Gorka Marquez has made it all the way to the final and still missed out.

Hamza was so dejected in the final as he broke down and cried and had to be comforted by Jowita Przystal.

Judges had pointed out his ‘rocky’ and ‘underwhelming’ performance in the show dance, and Craig Revel Horwood told Hamza he had ‘expected much better’.

But it was not enough for Hamza and Jowita to be pipped to the post, despite coming fourth in the leaderboard on the night.

And as the winner was announced, a clearly unhappy Gorka looked on, extremely unhappy and stony faced and he couldn’t hide his emotions.

Viewers felt it was hugely unfair and would complain to the BBC for not releasing the full results like it normally does to show how the voting actually broke down.

@cazw111 said: “How can Hamza win after making so many mistakes, Helen should of won. She was robbed. #Strictly”

@atvfriend said: “It’s okay to feel torn after the final tonight, the best dancer didn’t win tonight and it seems odd that the Winner is not the Dancer with the best scores But that’s a Public Vote although the BBC don’t help with not releasing the full results”

@houseofdylan said: “I like Hamza but that was a underwhelming way to end the season. He was great the season but was arguably the worst of the night. Fleur & Helen robbed! #Strictly #StrictlyFinal”

And even Dan Walker agreed with viewers’ feelings as he tweeted: “Well done Hamza… Helen didn’t win but she has won.

“She danced through a whirlwind, never mentioned it and remained dignified throughout.

“Her mum, dad and kids must be so proud of her. Well done @HelenSkelton & @gorkamarquez1 #Strictly.””
