Strictly Come Dancing fans emotional as Hamza breaks down in tears during semi finals

It was an emotional night for Hamza Yassin in the Strictly Come Dancing semi-finals as messages from his friends and family caused him to become emotional.

As has been the case in previous Strictly Come Dancing semi-finals, the remaining celebrities and their professional dance partners perform two dance numbers for the first time during the series.

It was after Hamza, who recently revealed his weightloss journey thanks to the show, and his dance partner Jowita Przystal had performed their second dance of the show that the cameraman and children’s television presenter began to well up with tears live on camera.

Hamza and Jowita had just danced a beautiful waltz and received high praise from judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton du Beke and head judge Shirley Ballas.

The wildlife expert has confessed he didn’t know he had his dancing skills in him.

While they waited to receive their scores, host Claudia Winkleman asked Hamza: “How was that waltz for you?”

Hamza replied: “Yeah, um, just really beautiful because this is Jowita’s favourite ballroom dance to do, so to be able to do that and just dance our last ballroom is, yeah, something special.”

An earlier clip in the show saw Jowita play a series of video messages to Hamza.

The video messages were from his friends and family wishing him good luck and telling him how proud they were of him.

Hamza was visibly emotional upon viewing these messages, something Claudia brought up when chatting with him on the live show.

Wiping away tears, Hamza said: “Thank you to everybody, it’s just been an amazing journey. Wow!”

Jowita rubbed his arm and leant in to the cameraman in a supporting hug as he tried to choke back the tears and compose himself.

He was met with applause from the studio audience as Claudia then announced the judge’s scores were in.

The couple received a 9 from Craig, Shirley, and Anton while Motsi scored them a 10, totalling 37.

Upon hearing their scores, Hamza and Jowita hugged before Hamza again broke down in tears, bringing his hand to his face.

Telling Jowita: “You are such a brilliant partnership,” Claudia then asked her: “Why does this boy deserve to be in the final?”

The Polish professional dancer replied saying: “I mean, the first time when I met you I asked you for the trust, and your energy, and you gave me much more than that.”

“And seeing you every day going out of your comfort zone and working so hard and giving me 120 per cent every time, it’s amazing.”

“But what makes me the proudest teacher in the world is that you always go there on the night and you dance from your heart, and thank you for that.”

In a Strictly first, the popular BBC dance show has aired on a Sunday for the first time in its 18 year history.

Dance lovers around the country typically tune in to the show on a Saturday evening, but thanks to this year’s FIFA World Cup, the schedule has had to move in order to accommodate the airing of matches.

Thanks to this change, the 2022 semi-final of the popular dance show will now be taking place on Sunday December 11th, with the results being revealed one day later on Monday December 12th.

There are six remaining couples competing in the Strictly Come Dancing semi-finals.

Still in the competition is Fleur East partnered and Vito Coppola, Will Mellor and Nancy Xu, Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez, Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal, and finally Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu.
