Looks like the nightmares coming out of Hawkins, Indiana, are about to get much worse because Freddy Krueger himself is joining the Stranger Things fray as one of eight new casting additions to the fourth season.

Nightmare on Elm Street horror legend Robert Englund will appear in the recurring role of Victor Creel, described as “a disturbed and intimidating man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital for a gruesome murder in the 1950s.”

Seemingly related to Englund’s role is Jamie Campbell Bower, the actor seen across Twilight (as Volturi Caius), Mortal Instruments (as Shadowhunter Jace), and Harry Potter (as young Grindelwald). Bower will play the series regular part of Peter Ballard, “a caring man who works as an orderly at a psychiatric hospital” and is “tired of the brutality he witnesses day after day.”

Season 4 will take viewers far outside the town of Hawkins to Russia, where our scrappy Chief of Police Hopper (David Harbour) is being held in Kamchatka by Russian operatives. Game of Thrones actor Tom Wlaschiha, who played Faceless Man of Braavos Jaqen H’ghar, will now be seen as Dmitri, a Russian prison guard who befriends Hopper. Dmitri is described as smart, cunning, and charming, though it’s unclear if he can be trusted. Another recurring actor, Nikola Djuricko (Genius) takes the part of Yuri, “a seedy and unpredictable Russian smuggler who loves bad jokes, cold hard cash, and crunchy style peanut butter.”

Meanwhile, the population of Hawkins continues to grow. Among the new series regulars are Joseph Quinn (Catherine the Great) as Eddie Munson, an ’80s metalhead who heads The Hellfire Club, Hawkins High’s official Dungeons & Dragons club, who finds himself at the epicenter of this season’s new mystery.

In recurring roles, there’s also Sherman Augustus (Westworld) as no-nonsense Lt. Colonel Sullivan, who thinks he knows how to stop the evil in Hawkins once and for all; and Mason Dye (The Goldbergs) as rich and handsome teen sports star Jason Carver, whose world begins to unravel as a new evil threatens Hawkins.

At the end of season 3, Joyce (Winona Ryder) packs up her family and moves away from Hawkins. Rounding out the new cast additions is Eduardo Franco (Booksmart) as Jonathan’s (Charlie Heaton) new best friend Argyle, “a fun-loving stoner who proudly delivers delicious pizza pies for Surfer Boy Pizza.”

Filming on season 4 had to pause for a spell due to COVID-19, but it was revealed at the start of October that the cast and crew were back up and running. A premiere date has not been revealed.
