Stewart Robertson claims Rangers Europa League run is worth MORE than Champions League group stage

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson says the club have made more from making the final of the Europa League than they would have from qualifying for the Champions League.

Beyond that though, he insists the profile from becoming European finalists for the first time since 2008 is also worth its weight in gold.

Gio van Bronckhorst ‘s team have embarked on a formidable run that has seen them bank more than £14m in prize money alone so far, and that could rise to almost £18m if they beat Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville.

It’s been a huge boost to the club’s bank balance but it has also put them back on the big stage competing with the likes of Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig to get this far.

Rangers ‘ Europa League run has been adequate consolation for yielding the Premiership title to Celtic and they hope to go one better than the Hoops’ famous side of 2003 in Seville.

And Robertson insists it’s been a huge boost for the club’s bank balance and its profile.

Robertson said: “The run we’ve had now is probably slightly more than we would have had from qualifying for the Champions League. It’s a terrific boost, it allows us to do so many things.

“Beyond the money, it’s the profile. You look at the profile the players get and the ability to attract new players when you come to the summer. I think when you’re in a European Final it makes the club much more attractive.

“Financially it’s been a fantastic addition to what we budgeted for so that allows us to look at strengthening the team in the summer, it allows us to continue with the infrastructure projects we still have to do around the stadium and training ground.

“So it’s been a fantastic boost to the club’s finances.”
