Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is being widely tipped by bookmakers to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job.

Villa are currently on a four-game unbeaten run, which has seen them pick up six points. Villa ’s performance against Nottingham Forest led to frustration, though, as the team struggled to break down Steve Cooper’s side, who were bottom of the table ahead of kick-off at the City Ground.

The delicate balance within the Premier League was highlighted by the fact that Villa remained 16th with a draw but could have soared to 9th, if they had snatched all three points. However, Villa have struggled to score goals throughout the season, resulting in Gerrard coming under increased scrutiny.

Sky Bet have listed Gerrard as odds-on favourite (4/5) to be the next top-flight boss to go. He is placed ahead of Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl (6/4) as well as Brendan Rodgers at Leicester City (3/1).

It is approaching 12 months since Gerrard replaced Dean Smith at the helm. The former Rangers boss has overseen 36 league games in charge, taking 44 points in total, including 12 wins.

Villa were booed by the travelling supporters at full-time against Forest and Gerrard admitted that he understood why fans were upset. “They’ve come here tonight and we’re playing a team who give a lot of chances up and goals up,” the Villa boss said . “We had a massive opportunity to go from 16th to ninth so the fans deserve for us to go and win that game.”

Speaking about his side’s current style of play, Gerrard added: “We are grinding at the moment. We are close to turning draws into wins but to do that we need big players to step forward for us and give us a little more quality in the last bit of our play. In the last couple of games we are going away frustrated.

“We have tried to change our system a bit to be a bit more bold. We finished with a really bold team out there to try and find that bit of magic and quality.”
