‘Steve Bruce has had it tough at Newcastle – he’s done an amazing job’

Former Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny doesn’t know why Newcastle fans are furious with manager Steve Bruce and he believes the manager has done a “good job” on Tyneside.

The 43-year-old told Football Insider that Bruce has done an “amazing job” and says the Magpies boss has had it tough since arriving at the club.

It comes after the Daily Star broke the news that Bruce was in line for a new three-year deal at St. James’ Park, with owner Mike Ashley content with Newcastle’s standing last season.

There’s been an outpouring of support for Bruce from former players and coaches – earlier this week former Newcastle coach Dean Saunders said that the club should offer the manager a new deal.

Kenny echoes the view of the former Magpies coach and insists that Bruce has done a good job.

He said: “It’s a strange one because he’s trying to get the sale of the club through.

“Unless the owners want to keep Bruce as well, that could be one explanation.

“But for me, Bruce has had it tough at Newcastle. They have had so many injuries.

“You could see that when they got their squad together later in the season, they started to get results and go further up the table.

“Personally, I think he’s done an amazing job at Newcastle. He got some great results.

“I don’t know why the fans are furious. I know they don’t want Ashley there but I think Bruce has done a good job with the cards he’s been dealt.”
