Steph Curry’s franchise-record free throw streak comes to an end at 80 straight

During the first quarter of the Golden State Warriors’ Sunday night tilt with the Portland Trail Blazers, Steph Curry caught fire. The two-time Most Valuable Player tallied 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field with a rebound in 12 minutes.

Curry’s scorching first quarter pushed the Warriors to a 36-33 lead over the Blazers heading into the second quarter at Chase Center. Despite Curry’s impressive early run, a record-breaking streak came to a close in the first quarter.

With 27 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Curry missed the first of two free-throw attempts. Prior to his miss against the Trail Blazers, Curry made a franchise-record of 80 consecutive makes from the free-throw line. Curry’s miss against the Trail Blazers was his first slip in the regular season from the line since March 29, 2019 against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Last week against the Chicago Bulls, Curry surpassed Rick Barry’s franchise record of 61 straight free throws. Curry was just 17 free throws away from breaking the NBA all-time mark of 97 from Michael Williams in 1993. Dirk Nowitzki was the last NBA player to sink 80 consecutive regular-season free throws. Nowitzki’s stretch came to an end at 82 in 2010.
