The Tennessee Senate appointed Lee University’s Dr. Jason Robinson to serve on the State Textbook and Instructional Materials Quality Commission.
Representing East Tennessee on this governing body, Dr. Robinson works alongside 10 members to create a recommended list of textbooks for the State Board of Education to approve. Once the list is finalized, it is then sent out to school districts for them to select which textbooks they aspire to use for their students.
“I am honored to have been appointed by our elected officials in Nashville to the commission,” said Dr.
Robinson, “I know that it will be a great opportunity to work side by side with educational leaders in Tennessee.”
The commission formed in January 2015, its mission aimed toward reviewing textbooks and ensuring the books do not contain any biases or inaccuracies. The public is able to give their input while textbooks are being presented to the commission and while school districts are choosing their list of books.
State Representative Kevin Brooks said, “It is always a thrill when someone from Cleveland, Tennessee, a fellow Lee University alumnus, and a local state educator is selected to serve in Nashville. Dr. Robinson will represent Cleveland, Bradley County, Lee University, and the values we all represent with great skill.”
Dr. Robinson serves as an assistant professor of education at Lee University in the Helen DeVos College of Education. He has been recognized as a local, state, and national award winner and has taught overseas in Argentina, South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates, and Nicaragua. He is passionate about training future leaders to make an impact on the world around them.
He received his doctorate from The University of Tennessee network in Learning and Leadership with a concentration in Curriculum and his master’s in Educational Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University. He earned his bachelor’s from Lee.
Dr. Robinson and his wife Faith, also an educator, reside in Tennessee with their two children. The couple directs science camps throughout the year both in the United States and abroad.
